This project started long before this season Kid's Clothes Week challenge was launched.
I fell in love with the fabric, bought it, went home very happy and grabbed all my pattern books, choosing what to do with it. It was the perfect fabric for a dress with frilled shoulders (dress A from the book Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids by Ruriko Yamada). Let me add an important detail: the smaller size featured in the book is still a way too large for my daughter... So, this project was kept untouched, until this KCW challenge was launched. Is there anything more future related, then a dress for future-Olívia?

Although I own several japanese pattern books, this was my first japanese pattern project. I enjoyed the way the pattern pieces are presented: several pattern pieces are common to different garments. I have the feeling that this helps to enlarge my "sewing mind", showing me possibilities to pattern hacking / modifications to use in the future...

I am also submitting this project to the Sew Japan with Mie series. It was not in my plans, I had planned to sew a different japanese dress for Olívia, but the Future theme of the KCW changed my plans :)

I have been through a tough week, with moments of pain and lots of fever, but I managed to finished the dress on time (the two buttons and the bottom hem were hand-stitched today while waiting for the doctor's appointement). Now, all we have to do is wait for the future to be present and the dress to fit my girl! I increased the length of the bottom hem, to shorten a bit the dress... I hope that she will be able to use it already during next year's summer.

* While writing this post, I tried to find out more details about the fabric (designer / producer)... And I noticed that it is the same pattern from Susanna Tana Lawn from Liberty Art Fabrics!!!!



The good news for my japanese pattern books: the Sew Japan With Mie is a year long series. This means hopefully I will be using you a lot more and sewing other japanese patterns soon, since I am very happy with this first trial!

I have other projects for the Kid's Clothes Week, but I don't think I will be able to finish any of them before sunday... But... The future will bring new babies <3 (but I am not the one pregnant yet)! Wait for the tiny clothes :)

Hoje vou mostrar-vos algumas das coisas que andei a costurar nas últimas semanas.
Descobri uns tecidos novos pelos quais me apaixonei... Nem vos vou mostrar o monte enorme de tecidos que comprei (o R. ficou fulo comigo, e o pior é que ele tem razão...)! Desta vez é de vez, não vão aparecer tecidos novos nesta casa nos próximos meses *!!!

[* há um asterisco :) uma única excepção: uma pequenina encomenda a uma amiga que está de férias no Japão. É quase sentimental: quero fazer algo para a Olívia com um tecido que veio do Japão "em mão", e não numa encomenda por correio... Faz sentido, certo?]

Apresento-vos o padrão do momento. É da colecção Five O'Clock, Hamburger Liebe by Hilco.
Eu nem sou nada de rosas, mas estou completamente rendida a este [ups! também comprei em azul...]. O detalhe do gato na fotografia é de um galão comprado na Rosa Pomar.


Comecei por repetir o molde do costume... (sim, tenho um problema. Quando gosto muito de algo, repito-o até à exaustão... Além disso, se há peça de roupa que a Olívia pode precisar, são blusas de manga comprida... Mas bem, agora acho que já não precisa de todo!). Desta vez reduzi a largura do corpo do molde, e substituí o franzido por pregas. Resultou mesmo bem, pois consegui combinar tudo isto com o padrão do tecido. Vejam nas fotos como fiz.




Pela primeira vez tentei um "stitch in the ditch", e a verdade é que correu muito bem. Bem mais fácil que fazer o acabamento à mão, como sempre fiz até aqui. Nesta blusa, todos os acabamentos (ok, excepto os botões) foram cosidos na máquina :)

Não vou falar-vos das mangas... Já usei este molde antes aqui e aqui, e desta vez, já muito farta de coser e descoser, deixei um franzido muito pequenino nas mangas.... E decidi que se voltar a fazer este molde, hei-de alterar alguma coisa para ser mais fácil embeber as mangas... É que elas pura e simplesmente não cabem onde é suposto :(

Em vez de botões, utilizei molas de pressão de metal. Comprei um alicate numa retrosaria da Rua da Conceição, em Lisboa [e uma agulha dupla!! é tão espectacular! já fiz umas experiências numa malha linda, também da hamburger liebe / hilco, mas não vos vou falar mais disso por agora].

A melhor parte, foi mesmo quando consegui vestir a blusinha na Olívia. Sou suspeita enquanto mãe, mas... ela fica linda :) :)

Além desta blusinha, testei com o mesmo tecido um molde novo, do mesmo livro, muito parecido, mas sem mangas. Fiz o tamanho acima, 4 anos. Também fiz algumas modificações: reduzi a largura do corpo, forrei a parte de cima da blusa, e terminei as cavas com uma fita de viés (processo esse que me fez sentir uma verdadeira nabiça da costura... ficou tão imperfeito...).
